In the Heart of the Flow: An Uplifting Chat with Emmy Rousseau

In the Heart of the Flow: An Uplifting Chat with Emmy Rousseau with Emmy Rousseau

In the latest episode of our podcast, I sat down with Emmy, an expert on transformation and intuition. We dove deep into the essence of living in the flow, the role of intuition in leading us towards inspired actions, and the beauty of serendipitous moments. We also touched upon meditation, learning techniques, and Emmy's transformative program, "Rise to Energize". Her book recommendations were also eye-opening. A truly profound conversation you don't want to miss!

In this episode we get curious about:

  • Living in the flow and following our intuition.
  • The societal conditioning that often leads us away from our intuition.
  • The power and simplicity of meditation for improved productivity and self-awareness.
  • Emmy's transformative program "Rise to Energize" and its potential benefits.

Interview Episode with Emmy Rousseau

Emmy: [:

I mean, nobody says don't listen to your intuition. No. But definitely we're socialized out of it. We did Right and

Laurin: out of it. And so much, so much of it is okay, but that's not logical. So you know where intuition isn't. It doesn't have to be logical. No, it's inspired.

Emmy: Yes, exactly. So the more we're open to those inspired actions, right, the more that life does become in the flow for sure.

ersonally, and that's always [:

Emmi Rousseau Visionary Educator is the founder of Trinity Transformations and the Holistic healing hub. She empowers change makers to go from feeling flat to inflow so that they can create the change in the world they were born to make. This is so up my alley. Emmy is passionate about helping others realize that putting themselves first is selfless, not self ish.

And I do want to talk about that. She is here to help us see how filling ourselves up first helps us serve not only ourselves, but also the world best. She does that through speaking, mentoring visionaries and leading in sati spiritual fitness classes online.

d co-author of the book, our [:

And I love this last line of her bio. Emmy's pillars in life and business are joy, gratitude, and love. Welcome Emmy. I'm so happy to have you here today.

Emmy: Hi. I'm so happy

Laurin: to be

Emmy: here with you all today too.

Laurin: Yeah. Thanks for having me, Laurin. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. I say that every time I know my listeners go. You always say that. Yeah, I know. But it's true. It's true. So let's talk first about this fitness program that I have a hard time pronouncing properly, not alone, Sati, right in sati.

Emmy: It's intense sati, so it's 10 from intention and sati, which

Laurin: means mindfulness. Okay. I'm sorry if I butchered that. Oh, everybody.

my: Almost everybody does at [:

Laurin: All right, so tell us, tell us about this, because I know I, what I know about it is the little bit I've read and looked at on your website.

, so I know that you're bringing this mindfulness spirituality into fitness, and I've experienced that in a yoga class, but I think that, I think you're doing something deeper or bigger, whatever. So tell us about that and how you came to it. I

Emmy: certainly will. So it's this incredible, magical practice that was, Founded 20 years ago by an incredible woman named Patricia Moreno, who unfortunately left us almost a year ago, February of last year.

t is deeper than any fitness [:

Usually some in leaders might, you know, change it more or less frequently, but they do give us a monthly theme and then we start by setting an intention around that theme. So for example, in January, we are doing winding a Gentle Winding Down, and. That's the theme. And so we'll talk about that a little bit and set an intention about that.

And then we go into the cardio section where it is cardio and affirmations. So it's not slow gentle yoga. It is like get your sweat on cardio. And we. Do that with an affirmation. So for example, this is the move happy. If you want to do, I know my thing goes away, but happy. And I know if you're just listening, you won't see it.

But if you're on YouTube, [:

And so we go through that and then we always end with a meditation or visualization followed by, for me, my favorite part, although I love all the parts, but my favorite part because I have never seen this in any fitness practice ever, is then it's just an open. Forum for everyone to share whatever they want, whatever feelings came up, whatever thoughts, what affirmation they loved, what was really challenging for them.

we go through that process, [:

Whatever the feelings or thoughts are. And I love that it's not just, you know, somebody comes up to the instructor afterwards and quietly says, oh, that was the best class. You know, I really had this thought about dah da da. But they're allowed to share it with everyone and not. Pressure to like, there's no like, okay, Laurin, it's your turn.

What are you going to say? No, it's just an open forum for whoever wants to share whenever, whatever they want to share. And it's really beautiful to have a space that gives people that space to

Laurin: express themselves. Yeah, you're, you're really addressing mind, body, and spirit all at the same time. A hundred percent.

A

Emmy: hundred percent. ,

the heart and allowing that [:

Emmy: this.

Yeah. And when we combine the physiology of movement with mindset, it's not just additive. It's not a one plus one is two. It is exponentially better. Yeah. Our brain receives it in so much

Laurin: bigger of a way. Yeah, and I love the, the community aspect at the end. That's something I'm super I, I love and I've created and, and before, but in the before time, you know, before the pandemic in person.

But it's something that I, I am aspiring to recreate now that we're kind of on the downside of everything I think we'll see. But particularly for women, I find that we need that community. We're, we're kind of wired for, I'm not going to say kind of, we are wired to be in community with each other and specifically with women because that's where we, we share our wisdom.

t's where we cry, it's where [:

And a, and a, it just, I don't know. I just love it. I love it. So I'm, I have had a similar kind of experience. It was a tiny little class that I did for years that was a combination of gentle yoga and time massage, so it was like maximum six in the class. It was awesome. I loved it. But we became, it was like the same, there were four or five of us that were there every, every week.

So we became friends, we became a community, and the instructor is part of that community. And, and it was the same thing. We, we didn't want to leave at the end. We wanted to sit and talk with each other, you know? So and share the experience and share, you know, just share. So I, I, this is such a holistic form of.

Fitness. [:

Emmy: this is so common and I, I appreciate your sharing that with all of us because, you know, other people will realize, oh, I'm like that too.

And maybe for them they have the body and the spirit, but not the mind. Or they have the body and the mind, but not the spirit. The. It is ver, nah, I shouldn't say very rare, but it is common. It's very common that we have only one or two of those where we feel like we have a good hold. Sometimes we feel like we have not a good hold on any of them, but Right.

lly have, I mean, I teach my [:

And there's such power in a morning routine. And so it's basically your whole morning routine in one. It, which is yeah. Wonderful for people who are like, Hey, let's be super productive. Yes. Right Ones, there's just so many reasons that it's. An amazing practice. The very first time I did it, I was like, this is magical.

I will definitely teach this someday. And yeah,

Laurin: it's, I mean, it sounds like a retreat every time you go. Exactly. Exactly. So I'm and we'll get, we'll get into more of the details of, of, you know, how you work with you, how I would work with you. But I, I'm assuming that you do this online as well as in person, or is it

Emmy: actually right now I strictly do it online.

ess instructor part-time or, [:

Laurin: knows, right?

So that's what my, my in-person community has not reconstituted. ‘cause every time I go, oh, maybe we can start now. Something else seems like, Nope, not now. Yeah. Alright. So. That's really fascinating. It is something unique because I've done, I've done yoga, I've done, you know, Zumba, I've done, you know, all kinds of different, tried different things and, and that one yoga class was the only one that really stuck with me.

Actually that's not true. I had another yoga teacher that taught me beginner's yoga, which was great ‘cause it was a real workshop kind of class and that was wonderful. But mostly I kind of try things out and they don't, don't really. Work for me for whatever reason. Mm-hmm. But this, I love that combo and I love the idea that, yeah, you kind of get everything done at once.

You know, [:

Emmy: setting?

So, right at the beginning, the, based on the theme, there is always an introduction that they send us, but also a space for the leader to bring a personal story of how that theme is showing up in their life. And then we draw everyone into, you know, an invitation to. Somehow bring that into their life as well.

So we'll stand, or sometimes we're sitting usually by that time standing, although I should say that intense sati can be done sitting or standing. So it really helps for e even wider range of people. Oh wow. Yeah. And I've done it, like when I sprained my ankle, I've done it sitting. So I've

Laurin: done it both ways.

Oh, that's [:

Emmy: ways. But yes. So we'll stand and set an intention for the practice. Before we start our warmup.

Laurin: Okay. All right. All right. And that's, everybody just sets their own intention for that. That's mm-hmm. Time to, to be intentional about

Emmy: it. That's right. Exactly. There's like a guided prompt and then you set your own intention.

Okay.

Laurin: Yeah. So how did you find this practice? What's was your journey to this?

Emmy: So my amazing friend Bonnie, reached out to me and she was an intense sati leader. We're both in the Toronto area in Canada, and there are only I think four leaders in all of Canada, three of us in Ontario, and one in Manitoba.

I'd been teaching Zumba since:

She knew that I was all about growth mindset and she's like, you know, I think you'd really like this ‘cause you like mindset and you like exercise, you should come and try it. And so I did. It was online with Patricia and the founder and like I said, it was just magical. I was like, I'm going to teach this sometime.

t was in. Maybe early June of:

In September, I went back to classes and honestly talk about magic. I was working with my then partner, like with my romantic partner about working [00:15:00] with him and everything ended in perfect timing because I was then presented with the opportunity in November after we had just broken up at the end of October to say, Hey, there's leader training coming.

Do you want to come? And I would not have had the time. It was five days. Of five hours a day. I would not have had the, actually it was seven days of five. No. Anyways, it was seven days long. That's what, I don't remember how many hours, but hours a day during the day. I wouldn't have had the time because I was working with him previously, and it just all tied in into like, wow.

Laurin: That's called divine right timing, right? Everything happens in divine

th,:

I just love it so much.

Laurin: , I'm totally going to check this out. I'm just going to say I have been looking for something to replace that, that community and that yoga class that, yo, it was called Yo Tie class. But I also know I need the cardio, and that's, I don't like cardio, so this would be good.

So anyway. I love

Emmy: that you said that too, because I tell people it's great for people that don't like exercise because the affirmations distract them from what they're doing with exercise and make it more fun and enjoyable. Yeah, also great. And community too. Yes, a hundred percent Community is so important.

And then for people that don't really love affirmations or they've tried them before and they're like, eh, they don't work for me, they'll see like, oh, this is amazing because. Your body still has to focus on the exercise and the affirmations are going in almost subconsciously. I mean, it's not subconscious, but Yeah.

e same time. It's just, it's [:

Laurin: And doing it early in the day then really does prime you for a really great day. It sure does get those endorphins going and the brains, you know, well, well

Emmy: fueled, Mel Robbins taught me that 20 minutes of heart rate raising cardio can increase your focus for two hours.

So imagine that you start your day feeling focused, feeling energized. Mm-hmm. Ready to work. It's amazing. And people tell me all the time, like, oh, and through the day, This affirmation came back to me just when I was feeling frustrated. Mm-hmm. Or this affirmation, or today someone said, you know, I love when we just did, we did this lower body section.

And I said, okay, just whisper the move names as we go. And it was just grace and faith and she's, no, I loved that because I really feel like during the day if I'm feeling stressed, I'm just going to bring myself back to how I felt right now and repeat those words. Oh my gosh.

Laurin: Right. [:

Wow. Okay. I love this. And of course this is a perfect a perfect thing to talk about on this podcast because I really am looking now to find ways to bring this sort of spiritual mind, body, spirit. Way of being into our lives in a very practical way. So it's perfect. This is, thank you. This is divine right timing too.

This, this interview with Emmy came together so fast, so, so it was definitely right time. All right. The other thing I just want to talk about, because I'm fascinated and it's on my bucket list to learn how to do this, but you are a speaker. And I went to your website and I watched a couple of 'em, and you're a fabulous speaker.

How did you, how did you come to that? Because you're very good at it.

when I was a kid. I remember [:

And when they looked, I was sitting with like, you know, 30 year old couple chatting with them on the rock. Like, I've just always loved speaking to people and, and sharing a message. So, of course, being a teacher, That came naturally to me. Mm-hmm. The speaking part and, but I was in direct sales for 18 years and the very first year I went to the convention, this gorgeous woman stood up on stage, just the epitome of grace and poise, and shared her story of how, you know, that company had really saved your life kind of thing and made a difference in her life.

stage and I, you know, had, [:

And 17 years later I finally said, you know what? I'm going to follow my dream of becoming a speaker. And like many, that was in 2019. I said, 2020 is going to be my year. But got everything prepped. I started taking the courses to like how to build a business and all these. Mm-hmm. And then of course, stage shut down in 2020.

And I then found virtual stages and podcasts. And funny story, the very first speaking engagement I ever did, I had heard this amazing woman speak so motivational. And I was like, oh, I want to do what she does. And she had like a, you know a low cost offer, $99 for this program, and it you get X, Y, and Z.

w do you do what you do? How [:

So when I went to the website, I couldn't find the like proper link that they, you know, gave us in the chat. Mm-hmm. So I just went to, let's say it's like Laurin wittick.com and I went to that website and it said, register to or apply to speak at the blah blah, blah conference. And I was like, well, I probably won't get it.

And didn't it end that day again, talking divine time applications? So there was no time to think about it and talk myself. That's sometimes

Laurin: the best.

Emmy: Ok. No time to talk myself out of it, which of course, logically you've never spoken before. You're not going to speak Uhhuh. And it's at a international women's conference, like, no, who would do that for their first thing?

e weeks. Do you have time to [:

Mm-hmm. And so he did. And that was awesome. And I was hooked. And then I went through a lot of training with an organization called Speaker Slam that does competitions mm-hmm. And also has a curriculum program and I. Loved it so much that I actually became certified as a club mentor and so. That's how I've been speaking

Laurin: ever since.

Yeah, that's, I got hooked in with them sometime early in my podcasting. Just the network. Mm-hmm. And I was really blown away by, by the two of them that run that. Yeah. Amazing people.

Emmy: Another amazing community. Just phenomenal heart-centered that's. Speakers, coaches, authors. It's amazing by

Laurin: the record, that's, that's what I got the sense of very quickly that they're, they're about that community and it's very supportive.

o learn how to be a speaker, [:

Absolutely. They are quite the pair. They are, they are. So, okay. That's really cool.

e Onos, was the winner of the:

That's like their finale competition. I was in it. I was so proud to kick off that competition. She won and she said that she won because. She was telling, she had listened to all of our stories and the power of our storytelling, and her speech was about that, the power of storytelling. And so she said that the power of stone storytelling was what won her the competition.

who believe in the impact of [:

You should be an author. And I was like, I don't want to write, I want to speak. if I wanted to write, I'd be a writer. Buthuh. No. Even when I'm creating my speeches, I usually speak them into a voice recorder and then transcribe them because I just like the spoken word is more.

More my thing, so. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. But that's it all started with Speaker Slam.

Laurin: Yeah. It's, and I love, your story is so filled with that, serendipity of divine timing, and that's when you really know you're living in the flow. You know, you're in the flow of whatever path you're supposed to be on or you came here to be on, because things start to unfold just when you're ready for them.

pened multiple times in your [:

Oh look, I'm going to do that next. You know? That's right.

Emmy: I'm going to do a podcast. What? Oh look, all this resources

Laurin: come at me, you know?

Emmy: Well, I think that's when, you know, we start to follow our intuition because our intuition is always there. It's this constant flow of guidance. Mm-hmm. Which we're taught as children not to listen to.

So the more we're open to those inspired actions, right, the more that life does become in the flow for sure.

turning, and you never know. [:

Emmy: I have to share too. I know you asked for one. Oh, that's the merrier, the first one. And, and I don't normally say like, Everyone should read this book ‘cause everybody has different things. Yeah. But honestly, if you like to learn, anybody who likes to learn, I don't care what you want to learn about, drop everything you are reading and read the book, Limitless by Jim Kwik.

Because they will teach you how to learn better, faster, absorb more information. And it's interesting. I mean, I was still teaching, when I was reading the book, I was teaching core French, which is we teach that here in Canada 40 minutes a day. Mm. So imagine in a 40 minute a day class, I had to tell the kids like, oh my gosh, guys, in today's thing, this was the tip.

So, I [:

And meditation was something that did not come easily for me. So if you're, you know, a listener going, meditation's not for me. Wait, stop, read this book. Mm-hmm. Does I think eight chapters on. The benefits of meditation, all from what we know. Like, you know, you get more in tune with yourself, you get calmer, but also you're more productive.

y. And then she finally gets [:

And when I say finally it, the first eight chapters are amazing. It's a great setup. Mm-hmm. And then it's not a difficult concept at all the way she teaches it. Good. So I highly recommend

Laurin: it. Good. Yeah. I know a lot of people say they have, they have trouble or they can't meditate, and I think there's too many boundaries people put around.

What, what is meditation?

Emmy: Yes. What I have to do, what I have to feel, what I, yeah. What I have to experience. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Just. Sit there and be quiet

Laurin: for a while. You know, it's, that's basically it. Breathe and breathe. Yes, exactly. Very important. Don't stop breathing. All right. Well, great. I, both of those, I haven't read either one, and they both sound really fascinating.

really writer, I mean, like, [:

So, yeah. All right. Well this has been a great conversation. This is yeah. Much, much deeper than I, even than I thought we would go, and I thought we'd go pretty deep. So I'm, I'm really. I will be talking to you after we stop recording. That's great. But in the meantime, let the listeners and the viewers once we get to YouTube soon actually by the time this comes out, we'll be on YouTube.

Let them know where they can find you for more information. And I will have the link to your book in the show notes, so they'll have, be able to get to that. I will put all the links for your socials, et cetera, in the show notes as well. So one good place where they can find you and anything else you want to share with us.

I'm not as much on Facebook [:

So that's exciting. And there was a second part to your question, I forgot,

Laurin: If there was anything else you wanted to

Emmy: share? Thank you. So if you're sitting wondering. How can I try this intense sati thing? I have the Rise to Energize challenge, which I want you to hear that it is a paid challenge and it's actually also a free challenge as long as you show up for yourself.

So it's a three week challenge. You can come and join us for class, whether it's via the recording or live with me, ‘cause I know it doesn't always work for people at the time I do it. And as long as you show up to. Two classes a week for three weeks, I offer three. So you can come to all three or you know, but you come to at least six of the nine classes you've shown up for you.

reat, Emmy, but you know, in [:

You want my money back? Or four weeks free if you decide that you, you you love it. So that's trinity transformations.com/rt e And I know that Laurin, you're going to put the link in the chat Yes. Afterwards, but that's something that's an ongoing, like you can start, you know, any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

So it'll be ongoing and you'll be able to get that.
